10 Hours a Week Back: Real Workflows for One-Person Businesses

Product details were checked on Anthropic's official pages on 24 October 2026. Features and plans change often.

When you run a business alone, you are also its bookkeeper, researcher, filing clerk and report writer. Those jobs rarely take long one at a time, but together they eat your week.

The title of this post is an ambition. I can't promise you ten hours, because no official source measures that for one-person businesses. What I can show you is which kinds of work an AI agent can now take off your plate, and how to measure what you really save.

What changed: from chat to hand-off

With a chatbot, you ask and then do the work yourself. With Claude Cowork, Anthropic says you "give it a goal, and it works across your files and tools," then "come back to polished work for your review."

Three details matter for a solo owner, all from Anthropic's help centre:

Anthropic's pricing page also notes that Claude Cowork is becoming part of the main Claude experience, rolling out to Pro and Max first.

Five workflows worth handing off

Each of these comes from the use cases Anthropic itself lists for Cowork. I've adapted them to a one-person business.

1. The Monday readout

Anthropic's own example is a weekly marketing readout that pulls numbers, compares them with the week before and builds slides. For you, that might be sales, newsletter sign-ups and website visits. Schedule it once, and you start Monday with the report instead of the assembly.

2. Receipts into an expense report

The help centre suggests you "drop receipts in a folder and ask Claude to create a formatted expense report." That suits month-end, before you send everything to your accountant.

3. Taming the Downloads folder

"Organize my Downloads folder by type and date" is another documented example, along with batch-renaming files to a pattern such as YYYY-MM-DD. It's small, but you'll stop losing invoices.

4. Research you can actually use

Cowork can combine web searches, articles and your notes into a report. Use it for competitor checks, supplier comparisons or background before a client call. It has a built-in browser for opening sites and reading pages.

5. First-pass document review

Anthropic shows Cowork reviewing a folder of contracts against a playbook and flagging departures. A solo owner can do a lighter version: check incoming agreements against your own list of must-haves. Treat the output as a first pass, not legal advice.

How to measure your real time back

  1. Pick three tasks from the list above that you do every week.
  2. Time them by hand once. Write the minutes down.
  3. Hand them off for two weeks. Time your review and fixes too, because that is real work.
  4. Subtract. Hand-done minutes minus review minutes is your honest saving.
  5. Keep what pays. Drop any workflow where reviewing takes as long as doing.

If your three tasks save you two hours, that is a real result, even if it isn't ten.

What it costs (checked 24 Oct 2026)

Cowork needs a paid Claude plan: Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise. Pro costs $20/month billed monthly, or $17/month billed annually ($200 up front). Max costs $100/month (5x) or $200/month (20x). Prices are in US dollars, exclude tax and may change. Anthropic notes that Cowork "consumes limits faster than Chat."
